Iran: Two More House Church Members Arrested In Shiraz

By Dan Wooding - ASSIST Ministries
SHIRAZ, IRAN (ANS) -- Two members of the Church of Iran, who belong to a house church that was raided on Friday October 12, 2012, by security forces, were arrested today in the city of Shiraz in Fars Province. Their arrest came after they were summoned to the Intelligence Ministry.s detention centre, Pelak (Plaque 100), where seven other members of their house church are currently being held. According to Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) Afsar Bahmani, a middle aged woman in need of specialist medication due to heart and kidney complications, was detained at around 1pm along with a man named Massoud Rezaie, after responding to the summons. Both are converts and long standing Christians. Mrs. Bahami was present during the raid of their house church on 12 October which resulted in the arrest of seven members, but was not detained at that time. These arrests are occurring against the backdrop of a sharp upsurge in the harassment and persecution of Christians, particularly converts. Christian Solidarity Worldwide has received reports of a significant increase in arrests during recent weeks.  CSW has also been informed that another member of the Church of Iran, Pastor Benham Irani, remains in critical condition in Ghezel Hesar Prison, where he has been denied adequate treatment for severe stomach ulcers and colon complications. CSW.s Chief Executive Mervyn Thomas said, .CSW is deeply concerned about the arrests of Mrs Bahmani and Mr Rezaie, which appear to be part of a renewed wave of arrests of house church members in Shiraz. We are particularly concerned for Mrs. Bahmani.s health and for Pastor Irani, whose condition continues to deteriorate. The harassment and arrest of religious minorities solely on account of their faith contravenes international covenants to which Iran is a signatory, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which guarantees the right to freedom of religion.

UK Investigates Christian Persecution in Iran

Friday, November 2nd, 2012
UK parliamentarians and Elam Ministries released a report on October 29 detailing the persecution of Christians in Iran while also asking the British government to apply pressure on Iran to uphold the fundamental right of religious freedom for all Iranian people. “During the course of this inquiry, we have catalogued evidence of widespread persecution of the most severe kind. We heard extremely harrowing stories of people who have lost their jobs, their freedom, their children and even their lives, through the Iranian Government's campaign of repression against Christians,” said David Burrowes MP, Chairman of the Inquiry. The report was attended by Dr. Ahmed Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Iran, who earlier this year said that more than 300 Christians have been imprisoned in Iran since mid-2010.

Ayatollah Labels House Churches as the “Enemies of the Islamic Revolution” in Iran

Wednesday, November 7th, 2012
Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani, an Iranian Islamic religious expert, has warned against anti-Shi'ite Muslim activities in Iran, Mohabat News reports. The ayatollah specifically mentioned the growing house church movement, a ‘threat’ that he placed on the same par as extremist Wahhabi Islam found in Saudi Arabia. Sobhani has publicly declared his anti-Christian views in the past, raising concerns among some Christians that a new crackdown against the church may be underway.

Sunday, November 18th, 2012
A Christian convert’s home was raided in Iran by ‘cyber police’ for his Christian activities, Mohabat News reports. Raids on Christian homes and their places of worship have increased in recent weeks. On October 26 and 28, two houses were raided in Tehran and four Christians were detained by Iranian security forces. On October 12, seven Christians were arrested at a house church gathering in Shiraz. Two more Christians from Shiraz have since been arrested, adding to an estimated 40 Christians who were arrested in September in the same city.

We must Pray for The Church in Iran!  We must Pray Jesus will keep touching hearts!  We must Pray those who are persecuted will be able to stay strong in their Faith!  We must Praise God for those courageous enough to spread The Gospel of Jesus Christ in Iran!

Holy bible says in Book of Revelation 20:4 - "And I saw high seats, and they were seated on them, and the right of judging was given to them: and I saw the souls of those who were put to death for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and those who did not give worship to the beast, or to his image, and had not his mark on their brows or on their hands; and they were living and ruling with Christ a thousand years." 2. Revelation 6:9-11 "9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” 11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,[a] were killed just as they had been."
