                            Should a True Born Again Christian Vote for Barack Obama?

I could give a one word answer and make this a very short article, but I would rather back up what I say with Scripture from The Holy Bible. I know I am going to catch a lot of heat from this article. Jesus put it on my heart about 4 months ago, I started researching it about a month ago. I ran from doing the article because I know it may cost me some friends, some peers, however I have learned the hard way when I don’t listen to Him, He gets my attention!

When I first began studying for the Ministry, one of my mentors warned me to NEVER mix politics and Religion. Another of my mentors said NEVER worry about being politically correct, ALWAYS be Biblically Correct. I have chosen to be Biblically Correct!

Before getting into the reasons I feel a true Born Again Believer can not, and should not vote for Barack Obama lets try to put one big issue at rest. I am frequently asked this question, “ Can or should a Christian vote for a Mormon?” My short answer is yes. Obviously as a Southern Baptist Preacher, if there was a Southern Baptist who was running, was qualified, and had a chance of winning that would be my first choice. Unfortunately there isn’t.

Because of Governor Romney’s Faith, and because of President Obama’s Faith, some Christians are deciding to either not vote, or vote for a third party. Either of which is simply a vote for President Obama. A Christian should vote for the person that best reflects Christian values. That would have to be Governor Romney. There are many more examples than I have the space or time to post, but lets examine a few, as well as what The Scripture tells us.

1. “I think it’s important for us to understand that the Fast and Furious program was a field-initiated program begun under the previous administration. When Eric Holder found out about it, he discontinued it. We assigned a inspector general to do a thorough report that was just issued, confirming that in fact Eric Holder did not know about this, that he took prompt action and the people who did initiate this were held accountable.”

— President Obama during Univision interview, Sept. 20, 2012

In spite of irrefutable proof Fast and Furious did not start until October of 2009, President Obama as well as his staff and surrogates continue to look into the camera, to look at the American people and lie. This is not one of those things where you would need to know his intent. For instance we all remember the many, many times we heard him say, “ If you like your health plan, if you like your Dr under my plan you can keep them.” Now we see that is false in many cases. What we don’t know is intent. Did he sincerely believe that and it just wasn’t the case? The intent with Fast and Furious is there. There is no doubt it’s a lie. Plain and simple. He has been confronted with the truth and continues the lie. This has been a pattern with him.

When questioned about his campaign and the lack of honesty in his ads, this was his response; “ Do we see sometimes us going overboard in our campaign, mistakes that are made, areas where there’s no doubt that somebody could dispute how we are presenting things, that happens in politics …).

From that response what I and many others understand from it is; yeah we distort the truth a little here, lie a little there, but you know its no big deal, its just politics. Is that the message you want your children or grandchildren to get from the President of the United States? Is that the message we want to send the world?

Lets look at what The Bible says about lies:

Leviticus 19:11   You shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another

Psalms 119:163   I hate and abhor lying: but your law do I love.

Proverbs 12:22  Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

1 Timothy 4:2  Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

Colossians 3:9  Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds;

Revelation 22:15  For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and fornicators, and murderers, and idolaters, and whoever loves and makes a lie.

There are many more references in The Holy Bible, these are just a few. In my life I have seen many Politicians say things that end up not being true. The Christian in me always wants to believe there was no intent to lie. They were simply going by flawed information, they were mistaken, they had to or risk letting something out that was classified as top secret for National Security reasons. In my lifetime I have only seen 3 Presidents get on National T.V. and outright lie, simply because they didn’t want to accept responsibility for their actions. Presidents Nixon, Clinton, and Obama. You don’t have to judge them to see their intent on the lies. When confronted with the truth, they still chose to lie.

2. Abortion.

President Obama has been the most pro abortion President in history. Some of his “achievements”:

In the Illinois legislature, he opposed the “Born-Alive Infants Protection Act” three times. The bill recognized babies born after attempted abortions as persons and required doctors to give them care. He opposed a partial-birth abortion bill in Illinois, even as the federal version passed the House with 282 votes and the Senate with 64 votes and was signed into law by President Bush in 2003. He arrived in the U.S. Senate in time to denounce the Supreme Court’s ruling upholding the ban.

In 2007, he told the Planned Parenthood Action Fund that his first act as president would be signing the Freedom of Choice Act. The act would enshrine in federal law a right to abortion more far-reaching than in Roe v. Wade and eliminate basically all federal and state-level restrictions on abortion.

In May, a bi-partisan majority of the House, including 20 Democrats, voted to ban abortion for the purpose of sex selection. A White House spokeswoman said: “The government should not intrude in medical decisions or private family matters in this way.” In other words, gender-based discrimination is OK—so long as it results in an abortion

I guess that leaves us with what does The Holy Bible say?

We all know the Bible tells us not to murder a person. So the question becomes when does a person become a person?

Psalm 51:5

44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

Jeremiah 1:5

5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

It is very evident from these and other voices, what is in a Mother’s womb is a human being in God’s eyes. That makes abortion a murder from a Biblical standpoint. There is no grey area, its black and white. Plain and simple.

3. Same Sex Marriage

I think the first thing we need to do is see what The Holy Bible says about homosexuality:

The first mention in the Bible is in Genesis 19:1-13. The wicked men of Sodom attempted a homosexual rape of two messengers from God who had come to visit Lot. As a result of this and other widespread wickedness, God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah in a storm of fire and brimstone.

Leviticus 18:22

13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

Romans 1:25-27

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

1 Timothy 1:8-10

There are more verses but I think this says enough to show homosexuality is Biblically wrong. Again there is no grey area. It says what it says. I have 7 friends one of whom is an Ordained Pastor who are living a homosexual life. I don’t hate them. I’m not mean to them. I will probably lose some of them as friends once this comes out, however they are living in sin. They can get mad or upset with me but I didn’t say it. God said it. It comes straight from His Word in The Holy Bible.

If it says in The Bible that homosexuality is a sin, an abomination, how can same sex marriage be ok. God made marriage between a man and a woman. Do we really want a man who is a same sex marriage supporter as President of The United States of America? What kind of signal does that send to our young people?

We could go into other reasons, his stand on Israel. His defense of islam, etc… but I think anyone who wants to vote as a Christian should, can use the information I’ve shown, get in The Holy Bible and see for themselves.

At the Democratic Convention they stood and booed God and Israel. There is no denying that fact. No explaining it away. President Obama signed off on having them taken out of the platform. Don’t we have enough trouble in our country without inviting the wrath of God?  After God has Blessed America as much as He has, can you imagine how that made Him feel?  Read the Democratic platform, this is NOT the Democratic Party of our Parents and Grandparents.

I implore, no I beg anyone who reads this, Pray for our country, Pray for God to lead you in your decision about who to vote for, and VOTE!  This is the most important election of our life.
